FAQ

Why Blast a Log Home?

The proper care and maintenance is crucial to the longevity of your house, be it a log home or not. If you allow dust, dirt and debris to collect on the logs, this could create a moist area that causes decay and rot, leading to degradation of your log home. This can happen inside the home as well as outside. By log home blasting the exterior of your log home on a regular basis, you'll maintain your logs for many years to come.

Will dust get into my home?

Yes. All log homes have slight imperfections (wood grain, knots, color differences, etc.). These imperfections create spaces, cracks, gaps and between logs and around doors and windows. Therefore, no matter how hard you try, if you choose to have your home cob blasted, you will have some dust enter your home.

How can I tell if it's time to have my home blasted?

Cob Blasting is recommended when it is obvious that your finish is failing. Signs of failing finish include pealing finish, bare wood, graying wood, washed out appearance, dark colors beneath the finish, or if the different sides of the house are different colors from one another.

Blasting is also recommended if you wish to change the color or type of stain from what you currently have.

How often do I need to corn cob blast my log home?

There is no exact answer to this question. Unfortunately, sometimes finishes do fail. Once a finish begins to fail, the only way to really fix the problem is to take the logs back down to bare wood and start over again. Signs of failing finish include pealing finish, bare wood, graying wood, washed out appearance, dark colors beneath the finish.

Does corn blasting damage or deteriorate the surface of the logs?

Properly done, media blasting with corn cob husks does not damage the log surface. With years of experience, we are able to remove the old finish, mold, and discoloration without eating into the logs and leaving a new surface to readily accept stains and sealants.
